A Quiet House Again cont.

During Mom's visit we went to several movies. She had not gotten to many adult movies in a while, ( she has taken my nephew Jackson to family pics) We hit the $1 show, older movies, but still new to us. She wants to find one in her area to go to. We went to the Fort Worth Art Museum for the Mayan exhibit, Kelly came along for that one & we had lunch at Central Market for an infamous BLT.

We made sure we got a wheel chair for the visit. But you can see who's pushing, although she would ride for long treks. We called it the stroller. I would ask Axel if we needed Grandmama's stroller also.
My sister Chris & nephew Joshua came to pick Mom & the dogs up & take them home. But we had a week's worth of activities. When you come to Ft. Worth a trip to the Stockyards is a must. We went to Costco one day, Josh thought the samples were great and made the food circle more than once. We had our first trip to American Airlines CR Smith Museum. A history of commercial air travel. A few minutes from our home is the Bureau of Engraving & Printing...where the U.S. makes the money. Fossil Rim Wildlife Center (1.5 hr from home) is a drive thru animal park. Thousands of animals. Mostly herding animal from all over the world. Zebra & giraffes are favorites.
The ostriches are MEAN & SCARY. But I got the best laugh watching my sister feed them. This was a great day trip. We had the truck full of people. We did miss Brody, who had planned to go with us. He was robbed at gun point the night before at his Gamestop store and had to take care of business.

We finished the week/trip up with a big barbeque. Lots of good food and family. Josh help Mom get the car packed up. It's amazing all the new stuff Mom was bringing home. We also shopped.

We enjoyed each other's company, not just the side trips. We watched old Clint Eastwood & Dirty Harry movies. We watched the Rangers in the playoffs, including the Giants beating us. The Amazing Race, Survivor, The Next Iron Chef, Hawaii 5 O, and Tom Selleck in Blue Bloods.

I would cook and Mom cleaned up, she scolded us if we did any of "her" work! She cleaned the floors after Larry finished the bathroom. There was dust everywhere, I was not able to do that kind stuff at the time. She worked in my yard, she didn't have to, she just wanted to keep busy & her backside hurt sitting around.

They all left Sunday morning for the long drive back to Georgia, We will miss the every day company, but Mom also missed her house. Festina liked getting her couches back. Axel asked where they were, he got to know his Grandmama better, along with the other kids. Now to plan the next trip or 2.

A Quiet House Again

On Sept 22 Kelly & I flew to Atlanta, GA to pick up my mother for a visit. Last year She flew out for 3 weeks, but started missing her dogs and she said she doesn't plan on flying again. No she not afraid of it, but all the new hassles and costs have made no fun. I decided that the next time I would go get her & the dogs for a longer visit. We visited many of the local attractions and some of her grand & great grandkids joined us.

Bella made herself at home, she enjoyed Festina's couch, much to Festina's irritation. Axel loved having Grandmama's dogs here. He called them Babe-be & Bell-la. He would insist they stay outside with him for ever. He has missed them and now wants Festina to hang out with him.

Baby thought she was the "queen", again Festina was irritated because she knows she's the QUEEN. Baby has an extremely high pitched bark and wasn't afraid to express herself, including in her sleep. (the reason the house is now quiet) At times during the visit I watched my grand dogs. I felt like Cesar Milan and had my own "pack" when Charly & Sophie visited for a long weekend. We only had 5 dogs at the time and Thumper came by to bring it to 6. It was exciting at times.

We went to the Texas State Fair one day. Sally was able to come with us. We sampled various "Fair" food. Larry has a deep fried carmel apple. The weather was great, about 82 and all us seniors got in for free. Even though Sally had to pay admission, she said this was the cheapest trip to the fair she ever had.....no kids.
We have Bruams Ice Cream parlors here. Mom loves the banana splits,(so do Larry & I) we made 3 or 4 trips in the 6 weeks. They make old fashioned splits, chocolate, vanilla & strawberry ice cream with 3 toppings, whipped cream, nuts & chrries for under $4. We have them for lunch, not dessert, but our actual lunch.
We took a trip to the Dallas Arboretum for their fall festival. They had houses made from pumpkins like bricks, they made a faux creek with water fall & swans using only pumpkins & grouds. Axel came with us this day. He LOVES pumpkins, it was almost overwelming for him, pumpkins everywhere.
