GRANDMA CAMP DAY THREE

The day started at the local library. We all got new books to read. Axel even has his own library card now.
We went to Cabela's. It's like going to a museum, except it's free. They have fish ponds, aquariums, previously live animal displays from Texas, Africa, and Alaska. We fed the trout, looked for Diego's spelling words (elk, deer, Cabelas, elephant) and all the displays. The alligator gar are some scary looking fish.
Everyone loved the aquariums, it's scary to think sometimes you swim with these fish in the lakes here.

A Small Vegetable Garden, but Big Lessons & Fun

We watch Axel 2 days a week. I really enjoy my time with him..As any Grandma and say it's a little different than raising children. I really wanted some fresh vegetables like I grew in California, only my entire backyard is about the size my vegetable in Riverside was.
Axel has had fun picking the green beans and corn. He likes eating them too. This morning he had 2 ears of corn for breakfast.

We had a pretty good harvest of green beans. Axel helped pick , wash & eat them.

He likes to water the plants.

The garden started out small, but yielded bushels. And a good experience for a little boy.

Summer Fun with the Grandkids

Our summer started out with Oscar going to Cub Scout Twilight camp. Each boy had to provide a chaperon for one day. I was the lucky one.......I can't say I enjoyed myself, in fact 8, 9 & 10 yr old boys in a group make me a little crazy. But the important thing was the boys had a great time.
A few weeks ago I decided to take 1 day each week and do activities with the grandkids this summer while we're home. The First week we tie dyed T-shirts. Kelly came along for the fun and conduct the Mentos experiment.

After four 2 litre bottles of diet coke & four packages of mentos we had some success. Trying to get all the mentos in the bottle at one time was a challenge. We finally got a geyser of about 5 feet the last time.
Today we went the library for some books and dvds. I'm the mean Grandma also, I'm giving the boys math homework everyday and they have to write a short report on the books they've read. We also made airplanes and went to the movies and saw Diary of a Wimpy Kid. Axel was pretty good in the theater for a 2 yr old. We got several comments on the shirts everywhere we went.

Next week we make marshmallow guns and going to Cabela's to see the aquariums and animal displays.
